The Blue Lagoon. Warm waste water from the nearby Svartsengi geothermal power plant is pumped into an artificial swimming lake. The day we visited was near blizzard conditions, but the water was warm enough to keep us warm in our bathers/cozzies. 1/3 of the energy produced in iceland is geothermal. Dissolved silica makes the water blue and swimmers' hair like bricks.
