At the the flagpole is Logberg (LawRock) from which the Speaker of the Allthing, the Parliament, annually recited all of the laws of Iceland over three days from memory. This occured from 930-1271. This site was selected for its acoustics and its proximity to the population, the heads of which would gather in summer for an annual parliament.
